Santa Fe - Rest Day
Rest and be Thankful
Art galleries, shops and cafes. Churches and cathedrals, boutiques and markets. Santa Fe provided more than just a little retail therapy for the Trans America Challenge’s rest day.
There were dozens of places to eat, drink and be merry and at least one where you could get some laundry done.
Our old friend and long distance rally veteran Marc Buchanan had dropped by for dinner last night and he gave us a few useful pointers.
Adobe and Pueblo architecture dominate the city with warm honey coloured rendering and exposed weathered timber supports. Bunches of chilli peppers hung from many door posts. Santa Fe is also home to the oldest house in the USA and the oldest church. The associated gift shops however seemed to be a little more modern.
As always, there were car issues to resolve and David Roberts took his Triumph down to the muffler shop for some work on his exhaust whilst the sweeps, along with Alan Beardshaw, set about finding a more permanent fix to the brake issue which surfaced yesterday.
As we expected, Erik van Droogenbroek’s fuel tank was drained, cleaned and refitted and all fingers are crossed that this has got to the bottom of the problem.
Brian and Catherine Scowcroft’s Chevy on the other hand needed just a little tune up and some minor attention to its tickover speed.
We also received some important news today from the ever alert 48 hour car. Because of a forest fire still raging along our intended route there will have to be a significant change to it tomorrow.
Mark Appleton therefore got no rest today, busy as he was with an atlas and a bunch of tulips.
